Who’s ready for some football??? Food at your Super Bowl Party will rank as important as the TV commercials and the game itself – sometimes really in that order. But the food? That’ll be your real memory maker – and no one does passionate, flavorful food better than the Deep South. Skip the takeout and pre-packaged and instead connect with your friends and family over an All-American tradition with soulful Southern ingredients and comfortable party foods. Said another way, don’t leave the competition to the football field: make your party the one folks are still raving about on Monday morning!
To that end, we’ve compiled a few of our favorite football party food recipes and ideas to help you put together an epic spread, worthy of an epic football occasion. Cheers to winning the party, y’all!
Pre-Game: The Welcome Cocktail
We’re warming up pre-game with a welcome cocktail. We’ll be reaching for our easy-to-batch cocktail, The Fire Pit.
Offense: When You Dip I Dip
It wouldn’t be a Southern party of any flavor with a few DIPS.
With all the cold weather we’ve been having lately, we love the jalapeno kick in Chef Stuart Gates’ Jalapeno Pimento Cheese that’ll keep us warm while still keeping our favorite Southern staple on the table.
An all-time reader and chef favorite that keeps them coming back for more is our Simmons Catfish Dip. We get in trouble whenever we DON’T serve this dip. Add an extra dose of hot sauce to give it some winter warmth.
Serve both of these with an array of crackers or corn chips.
Next up, we’ll also be skipping the kitchen prep and going straight for a jar of Sugar Taylor Sauce. Pour into a bowl surrounded by salty pretzels for a sweet and spicy dip that your guests will go crazy about. Also, this snack is just brilliant with beer. Need I say more?
Finally, we’ll be grilling some Graham Shrimp Co. tail-on shrimp and Simmons Catfish Strips and serving those with Chef David Bancroft’s Alabama White BBQ Sauce. These gorgeous tender shrimp and white flaky fish strips will shine served simply but fill up hungry fans – and it’s a quick win on the grill just before game time.
Defense: Lay It On Thick
There’s nothing more Southern than a great biscuit, and for the big game, we’re using biscuits as our buns for a slider sampler platter. Karl Worley at Biscuit Love in Nashville shared his killer biscuit recipe with us – so that’s a good spot to start.
We’ll be smoking a pork shoulder and a brisket for the occasion. Slice, chop and pull your finished meat according to your preference then pile the meat up on the biscuits for an assortment of hearty, fork-needed sliders.
We’re reaching for the Sugar Taylor Sauce bottle as well as Chef David Bancroft’s Alabama White BBQ Sauce again as condiments. Mix and match the meats and sauces for an irresistible platter. Serve with a pile of homemade dill pickle slices on the side.
Special Teams: Fire Up the Secret Weapons
Last but certainly not least, we need to add one more crunch to our menu. One of our favorite secret weapons of all times is courtesy of Simon Majumdar. When he visited us a few years back during his book tour, he created this version of Sweet & Spicy Peanuts featuring buttery Southern grown peanuts and tangy tamarind. We really can’t stop eating these, and we know they’ll be the first thing to disappear from our buffet table on gameday.
