Nestled in the foothills of Appalachia along the original Boone Trace in rural Laurel County, Kentucky, Wildcat Mountain Cheese is a family-owned and operated dairy and farmstead cheese producing farm. Patton Dairy Farm is rooted in a tradition dating to the late 1930s, when Ronnie’s grandfather, Steve Patton, Sr. started the dairy operation. Several years later, his son Steve, Jr. took over the dairy. Growing up on the family farm, Steve’s son, Ronnie was destined to continue dairy farming and now his children are also involved with the operations of Patton Dairy Farm.

In 2014, Ronnie and Clara Patton started making farmstead artisan cheese from the quality milk produced by the grass-fed herd of dairy cattle consisting of Holstein, Ayrshire, and Jersey breeds. The free-range cattle graze on rolling hillsides, maintaining their health from the native grasses to produce wholesome milk without the use of added hormones or antibiotic feeds. With sustainable farming methods, summer hay crops grown on the Patton Farm provide nourishment for the herd through the winter, when pastures are barren.

Wildcat Mountain Cheese products are made from whole milk, which is low-temperature pasteurized. Both of these factors allow rich flavor profiles to develop during the aging process. Microbial rennet is used to coagulate the milk and the cheeses are made naturally without additional preservatives. When the cheeses have matured, each one is hand-cut and packaged. Consumers are delighted knowing Wildcat Mountain Cheese is produced locally in southeastern Kentucky, being designated Appalachian Proud. The facility is compliant with Kentucky Milk Safety codes.

Customers can enjoy artisan, farmstead made cheeses direct from the Farm-to-the-Table.

Located a few miles from the historic Civil War Wildcat Mountain Battlefield, known as Camp Wildcat, the farm is approximately 8 miles from I-75 (London exit 41). Cheese samples, fresh country air, and beautiful scenery await your visit. Cheese can be purchased in the on-farm Roadside Farm Market store or at select markets from Knoxville to Cincinnati and from Elizabethtown to Huntington.
