On December 7, 2017, Eat Y’all presented the Southern U.S. Trade Association delegates and their international trade partners with a special dinner celebrating the bounty of the South as part of an effort to showcase creative uses for Southern ingredients to make these value-added products more marketable to international buyers.
We were so honored to be invited to lead this endeavor. It was our pleasure to collaborate with with such an amazing line-up of Southern grown and made ingredients and to work with Chef Milton Joachim, Executive Chef at Charred in Ocean Springs, Mississippi and Chef David Pan, owner of Orange Beach Concierge in Orange Beach, Alabama. These chefs are top-notch, gracious professionals who created heartfelt dishes that really made the ingredients the star of the meal.
With the help of our volunteers, this event would have been impossible. Our heartfelt thanks go to the volunteers who donated their time to chop, prep, plate, serve, clean, setup and teardown this event. It was truly a dinner made possible by the passion of many of our readers and friends including Jayne Jackson, Matthew Mauldin, Tara Owens and Maria Midgett. They came together to celebrate and champion the best of Southern food to the world – and they did an epic job.
Thank you to the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce and the Southern U. S. Trade Association for giving us the opportunity to end last year by celebrating the bounty of the South in such a special way. I wish each and every farmer, maker and chef could have been there – but in lieu of that, we present this fantastic video created by videographer D Gaines.
This event was such a tremendous joy – and success – because of the wonderful people who helped make it all happen: the farmers, the makers, the chefs and the volunteers – and of course, our enthusiastic and gracious guests who joined us from across the South – and the world.
