June is National Dairy Month. That means that June is by default an extraordinarily fun month that my food-loving self can celebrate enthusiastically in many, many different ways. On this first day of the month-long celebration of cute cows, relentlessly hardworking farmers and culinary delights, I’m charting my path into a dairy coma by dreaming of the ways that butter and buttermilk, cream and cheese, yogurt and sour cream can all make their way into my menu planning this month.
June also means considerably warmer weather where I live along the Gulf of Mexico, a level of heat relieved only by ocean breezes and ice cream. Yes, ice cream.
Ice Cream on the Front Porch
Ice cream is a social fixture in our idyllic neighborhood, where it’s come to be recognized as community property similarly to the parks and walking paths. An undisclosed perk of living here is that we eat a lot of ice cream. Usually on someone’s porch accompanied by a side of laughter and good fellowship. Because of our coastal climate, ice cream is a year-round fixture here, not unlike outdoor grilling, and such habits lead one to become a connoisseur of sorts.
My Favorite Flavors
When it comes to flavors, we’ve all got our opinions. For me, my preference changes season to season – mostly. I love a simple Affogato in winter, or in lieu of that option, a rich Coffee flavor. In spring, I reach for Strawberry, and in the fall, I love Butter Pecan or a well done Vanilla Bean over a fall fruit cobbler or crisp.
I do, however, have a perennial favorite. Since moving to the Mississippi Coast over five years ago, I’ve been introduced to a locally loved delicacy called Creole Cream Cheese. Incorporated into ice cream, Creole Cream Cheese ice cream is the chameleon of ice cream pairings: rich and bold yet light and tart. So well balanced that it’s able to pair with a myriad of seasonal desserts and fresh fruits while also able to stand solidly on its own. For it’s versatility and broad appeal, I find that Creole Cream Cheese ice cream is a go-to staple for my freezer day to day.
A Truly Important Ice Cream Question
All of this ice cream flavor pontificating made us wonder – what flavor is your favorite?
And since questions need answers, we’d sure like to know your answer. I’ve buttered up the hubs (who also happens to be the boss around here), and he’s agreed that June Dairy Month calls for some extra special fun. So, drumroll, please…
We want YOU to help us create a new ice cream flavor!
Because who knows – maybe the best ice cream flavor hasn’t even been invented yet!
If you were to create your dream of an ice cream flavor, what flavor would it be?
What (local) products would you incorporate?
What flavor made into an ice cream would sure take your summer porch socials to the next level?
To get this party started, please submit your ideas using the form below.
Before you know it, we’ll compile the best of the best submissions and put them up on this site for a reader vote. Once our readers pick a winner overall, you guessed it, the Eat Y’all crew will enlist the help of a local artisan creamery to make the winning ice cream flavor! And, finally, if all goes well, we might even host one heck of an ice cream social, so some of you can come over and do some taste testing. We’ll see how it goes.
Without further ado, let’s hear your ice cream flavor ideas using the form below. Describe your flavor and ingredients in as much or as little detail as you wish. All fields are required, so we can get in touch if your flavor is chosen for the voting round!
A few important privacy notes: You can submit as many ideas as you want, but since National Dairy Month will be over before we know it, all ideas must be submitted by NOON CDT on Wednesday, June 8. There are no geographic limits – submit ideas from anywhere in the world. We also encourage you to eat a lot of ice cream, all in the name of creative research. We will never sell or share your email address with anyone outside of our company, Eat Cities, LLC. Ever. But by sharing your idea here, you do agree that we can contact you about your idea and share it with others and even email you about other stuff, too. We also reserve the right to invite you over to our front porch to do some taste testing, if it comes to that. We’d also love to give you credit for the idea (if it’s good, of course) unless you tell us otherwise. Want to know more about our privacy policies? Click here. And thanks for reading – and celebrating National Dairy Month with us.
