Peanut butter, peanut brittle, peanut sauce, peanut party mix – we love the Southern-grown protein packed peanut! Recently, the Southern Peanut Growers took over our Eat Y’all Instagram account to help us kick off our celebration of National Peanut Month during March. Our only request was that they share all of the peanut goodness they could muster in three short days.
And boy did they share some peanut love with us! We learned more about peanuts and peanut farming, how to make peanut butter and how to incorporate peanuts into easy recipes for flavor and added protein. Most importantly, we were introduced to the hard working folks behind the millions of peanuts we consume. Peanuts have quite a big story to tell, thanks to the hardworking farmers that make them possible.
We’re creamy and smooth or chunky and crunchy… we’re Southern Peanut Growers (@peanut.butter.lovers), the farmers in GA, AL, FL and MS who are proud to grow the peanuts for your PEANUT BUTTER! We’re doing an #Instagramtakeover for a few days in celebration of #NationalPeanutMonth in March! How will you celebrate? (We vote for “with a spoon”!)
See those peanuts on the far right? They’re called runner peanuts. They are the most widely consumed variety because they’re used to make #peanutbutter. Runner peanuts thrive in warm climates with sandy, well-drained soil like here in the Southeast. The remaining peanuts are Virginia or “cocktail nuts” (left) and Spanish (middle). Itching for spring? So are the peanut farmers. That same shelled peanut (or kernel) is also a seed. Peanut kernels are planted after the last frost in April, then harvested 120-160 days later, usually in Sept. or Oct. Alabama’s Jay Corte is the 4th generation on his family’s land. He and his wife Rosemary farm more than 3,000 acres – 2/3 of which is peanuts and cotton. #farmtotable #peanutfarming #planting #springiscoming #peanutplanter #peanutbutter #peanutgrowers A photo posted by Eat Y’all (@letseatyall) on
It’s #DIY peanut butter time! The best part is, you only need one ingredient: peanuts! Just add unsalted peanuts to a high-powered blender (like the Vitamix used here) or a food processor and blend. In one minute you’ll have sweet, natural, homemade peanut butter ready to enjoy. Store it in the refrigerator for up to two weeks – although ours never lasts that long. 😉 #homemade #peanutbutter #vitamix #blender #sweet #nutbutter A video posted by Eat Y’all (@letseatyall) on

Peanut butter for #breakfast is not only delicious – it’s a #powerbreakfast! Studies show that layering on #peanutbutter for breakfast can satisfy cravings and help control blood sugar into the afternoon – even past a high-carb lunch. There are sooo many ways to add peanut butter to your morning: top your oatmeal, add to your #smoothie, mix with #greekyogurt and fruit, slather your wheat toast or pancakes! How do you do PB for breakfast?? Follow @peanut.butter.lovers for more recipes. A photo posted by Eat Y’all (@letseatyall) on
#DYK: There are enough peanuts in 1 acre to make 30,000 PB sandwiches! That makes Nick Marshall, a third-generation Florida peanut farmer, personally responsible for 15 MILLION PB sandwiches. Nick farms a 500-acre peanut farm with his parents. He says he’s learned everything he needs to know from his dad, and he works side-by-side with his mom who drives the dump wagon next to his picker all day long every harvest. @Peanut.butter.lovers, thank a farmer! #peanutfarming #farmtotable #familyfarm #thankafarmer A photo posted by Eat Y’all (@letseatyall) on
