The first time I met Valarie Davis Lee, I was hooked. Known by those closest to her as “Valine” (vahl-een), she is quite possible the most sugary, sweet Southern gal I’ve ever met. Yes, seriously.
I turned the jar around in my hand as I shameless reached for another club cracker. Not too tall, wide mouthed… Dipping is easy. All-natural, it says. “Nice,” I thought. Famously fresh, the bottle proclaimed. “No kidding,” I mused. I was learning quickly from experience.
Fresher. Brighter. Addictive. Sorta like Valine herself.
In this week’s Eat Y’all Radio episode, Eat Y’all co-founder Andy Chapman visits with Valarie about the history of her nickname, the origin of her cocktail sauce recipe and the secret ingredient to her success.
