The next time you’re in Atlanta, Georgia, a great Southern city for fresh cuisine, you must do yourself the favor of having a meal at Local Three.
Described by Chefs Chris Hall and Todd Mussman as “foie gras in your flip flops,” the atmosphere at Local Three is hip but not intimidating, with plenty of dining spaces, polished wood, and friendly staff. The restaurant emphasizes fresh, local and seasonal cuisine at affordable prices. They also have a full bar, with an impressive collection of wines, craft beers, and artisan spirit selections.
When I looked at the menu, I wanted to try everything on it. I limited myself to one selection per course, and the three course meal that followed had me swooning.
I started with an appetizer of Bruschetta. But this Bruschetta was truly unique: fresh ricotta, charred Vidalia onion, and mission figs on perfectly toasted baguettes. The fresh figs and soft ricotta were amazing, offset nicely by the charred onions. I could have eaten six more. Seriously.
For my main course, I chose Pan Roasted Arctic Char. Accompanied by creamed spinach, carrots, and smoked mussel, this mild-and-meaty fish dish was incredible. The smoked mussel was perhaps the best touch of all, bringing its own smoky seafood flavor into the mix and complimenting the milder char. Awesome.
Finally, for dessert, after much debate (and at the helpful suggestion of my waiter), I went with S’More Chocolate Mousse. Cayenne, caramel, toasted marshmallows – an adult version of the campfire classic. Heavenly.
Insider tip: The one and only “warning” I’ll give you about Local Three is that it’s a little hard to find – it’s nestled within a business-park complex, and the signage isn’t great, so we had to circle around before finally finding it.
Now that I know where it is, though, without a doubt, the next time I’m in Georgia I’ll be returning to Local Three to sample more of their incredible seasonal menu. Overall: inviting, accessible, trendy – but most importantly, amazing food. That’s why Eat Y’all nation needs to know about Local Three in Atlanta. Truly, a sensational Southern restaurant.
